4th International Multimedial Art Festival - IMAF 2002

Nenad Bogdanovic:
At the end of year 1998 1st International Multimedial Art Festival (IMAF '98) was held in Odzaci.
Political and social situation surrounding the festival and extremely difficult financial moment, following this festival and it’s organizer (Multimedial Art Studio from Odzaci) from the day it was founded until today, didn’t give many optimistic thoughts about eventual continual work. Successful realisation of the 4th IMAF made real all good hopes of the artists and people who appreciate this way of art expression.
When the festival begun, interests of the organisers and most of the potential participants moved toward communication by universal language of art, especially artistic expression by performance. Why performance? I would be making a mistake if I don’t say: because of freedom of artistic expression. Artists and certain artistic events equalize art and life. Art of performance is the best example of this artistic praxis. Performers literally live in their relatively short plays where, for example, blood is always real blood. They don’t act; they live in their performances. Freedom of expression in artistic performances has a very wide spectre and artists know that and use it literally. Translated in language of artists - performance is freedom.
4th IMAF was imagined to be an assembly of art events in front of and inside of MAS Gallery in Odzaci:
1. Exhibition of art project “Performance Art Today”.
2. Live performances of artists from Switzerland, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Yugoslavia.
3. Presentation of performance documentation by slide show, video, audio, CD and internet, within international exhibition “Performance Art Today”.
Time period if the art works and/or documentation materials caught art performances realised during last couple of decades of the 20th century until today. From the angle of art history, exhibition “Performance Art Today” has shown people that marked certain period by their work and existence on international art scene. Apart from the objective insight of the quality of performances made worldwide, this exhibition offers information about generations involved in performance art in certain period and space, today and in recent history.
Presence of the majority of true images and events, that are very important for competent insight of international performance art scene, is basic quality of the “Performance Art Today” exhibition and IMAF 2002 festival.
